Good Looking Bedding Collections
68Introduction
I've recently spent some time looking for a new bedding collection for my bedroom, and I was a little overwhelmed by the options. There is a virtually unlimited amount of colors, styles, brands, materials, and sizes of bedding available on the market - I could spend months just getting familiar with everything! I don't intend to do that, but I would like to offer some of my findings to you, in the form of this Hub, where I will go through some of the categories of bedding collections available on the market, and what you may want to look for when doing your own shopping.
Bedding Collections
What's in a Bedding Collection
There are basic bedding collections available, and there are more complete sets out there as well. The most basic collection would include sheets, a comforter, and a couple pillow cases - the basics for just using the bed.
From there, you can upgrade and get a bed skirt, some accent pillows or shams to go on top of the main pillow, an extra throw or blanket, and more. I'm not joking when I say complete!
Really, there's not a whole lot of standardization in these terms - a complete set in one collection may be very different from a complete set elsewhere. The goal you want to have for yourself is to make sure you are getting everything you need, and only paying for the extras that you want.
What to Look for in when Shopping
When shopping, pay attention to the quality and material of the sheets. Both of these factors will determine what they feel like when you're in bed - and that's the most important factor here. I'd rather have a bed that doesn't look quite right but feels incredible, rather than having a bed that looks perfect but isn't quite as comfortable as I'd like. Most people agree - in the dark, when you're asleep, you can't see the bed, but you can feel it.
But ideally, you want it to look good. So once you know what kind of material you're looking for, you can look into color and design. I've looked for something that matches my room as a whole. My room doesn't have too many frills, so I've avoided the massive, 25 piece bedding collections that have 15 pillows on top - they'd fit in perfectly in a room that has a massive amount of design and activity in them, but they don't in my room.
Remember, your bed and room work together to create an effect. Make sure it's the best effect you can create, or else you'll regret your purchase.
Hotel Collection Bedding
A great place to start, if you're not sure what you're looking for, is hotel collection bedding? Why? Hotels have a concern. They want their rooms to look great, just fantastic, but they don't want to spend a lot of money on the sheets. So they end up with a good amount of extras - multiple pillows on top, a generous comforter - but at a low price. So you can very easily end up with the best of both worlds.
Check these types of collections, as the quality of the sheets may not be excellent - but they're certainly serviceable. And considering that most of them make due with white sheets, you can always swap them out for something nicer.
For a very good, but not fantastic, option, hotel collection bedding is definitely worth a shot. There are options both above and below them though, and go in whatever direction you want from there.
Luxury Bedding Collections
Assuming you're going up from the hotel collections, then you're probably looking for luxury bedding collections. These don't pull out the stops. They come with a lot of extras for the top of the bed, a beautiful bed skirt and comforter, and top the whole thing off with some fantastic bed sheets to sleep on. All in all, they're beautiful and feel like a cloud.
That comes at a price though - these are some of the most expensive sets you'll find. Anywhere from several hundred dollars to several thousand, depending on what you're looking for. And yet they feel so great, and will last a long time, why wouldn't you invest it if you have the means? Just make sure you have the means first - you don't want to go spending too much, and there are options below this one.
Baby Bedding Collections
File this one under 'specialty bedding collections'. Baby bedding collections aren't fundamentally different, they're just marketed a little differently. Babies have no need for dozens of pillows, and so they're usually more basic, with the sheets, blankets, and simple pillows. Of course, they come in more vibrant and young colors, and may even come with stuffed animals or some similar item.
The big concern with these sets is making sure it matches the design of the room. The sheets should feel good as always too, but make sure they match too. Despite the low amount of pillows, these sets can be every bit as expensive as an adult bedding collection (I'm sure it has to do with a new parent's willingness to pay a bit more) but at the same time, you'll be getting a good product.
Conclusion
When purchasing a bedding collection, make sure it feels good and looks good. That's as general as I can get, and are rules that everyone needs to keep in mind.
To be more specific, make sure you're getting the extra pillows and sheets you want, and not paying a ton for additional things. Shop around, especially from one company to the next, so you get an idea of what to spend.
Check things like thread count. Go to a store, get an idea for what a 300 thread count feels like versus a 500 count, and then use that knowledge to shop online (where good deals usually are). Keep the price low, but in the end, I am willing to spend a little more for exceptional quality, and perhaps you are too.
