4 Great Ways to Use a Wicker Storage Chest
67Introduction
If you have a wicker storage chest in your home, then you probably realize how good looking they can be. It's a handsome piece of furniture, with an added benefit of being able to store practically anything in it. The wicker itself has enough holes to allow the things inside to breath, making it suitable for blankets and linens as well. But there is much more you can do with a wicker storage chest than just sitting it in your living room or bedroom. Here are 4 ideas on exactly how to doll it up just a bit and make it spectacular.
Coffee Table
Wicker chests make terrific coffee tables. Their light weight makes them easy to move around, and they are unique enough to draw some interested questions. All you need to do is get a piece of glass to put on top of it. In my experience it can be the size of the chest, or a little bit larger, to give some extra table space around the edges. Then, if you decide you only wanted it out for the company, you can easily put it away. It's something you've probably never seen, right? And that's why everyone is going to love it.
Wet Towel Storage
Do you have a pool that's regularly used? Or are you looking for some place to keep you or your child's wet towels when done with them? Consider using a wicker trunk as a used towel deposit. When placed beside a pool, it gives a convenient drop off spot for everyone who just went swimming, and the fact that it breathes so easily ensures that the towels won't get moldy and gross in a short period of time. It isn't too difficult to properly care for a wicker storage trunk, so it's not hard to make sure the trunk itself stays in good shape.
On a side note, this is a great use I've found for wicker storage baskets with lids, as you can keep the towels all together, and by closing the lid you can keep things around the pools looking neat, which can be a big mental boost for you. For that matter, the same idea works in the bathroom, if you use the basket as a wet towel hamper.
Underbed Storage
One of the biggest benefits that I keep mentioning over and over is the light weight of wicker. This makes it suitable to use as storage in obscure places that take a bit of work to get them out of. If you use a trunk to store heavy objects, and then manage to get it under your bed, it's going to take work to get it back out. Wicker is much easier to move around. This also applies to attic storage or a closet with a lot of things in it.
Toy Boxes
Wicker chests and trunks are great for storing toys for your children, or if you have children that come visit regularly. However, just a couple points to make here. First, the chests will likely take some damage from the kids regular usage, so make sure you choose sturdy wicker chests that you don't particularly need to keep in mint condition. Also, the lightness of the wicker will make it easy for the kids to pull out of storage, regardless of whether or not you want them to. But it works very well for the job, and I can definitely recommend it.
Conclusion
This is just a few of the many ways to use wicker trunks to your advantage. Do you have some ideas that I missed? Great! Let me know in the comments, and perhaps I'll even add it to my Hub!
