Choosing Large Storage Boxes
56More and more people in the millennial generation - that is, people born on or after 1980 - are showing a preference for city life that their parents never did. They seem to like the idea of relying on public transportation to get them to and from work, and having a number of restaurants in walking distance from their home.
This is a fine change, but it also means that they have much smaller living spaces than their parents, who often lived in large suburban homes, did. So they need to be a little more creative in finding storage solutions that will allow them to keep everything they own without getting cluttered in their own house. Here are a couple things to do to ensure that this doesn't happen to you.
To start, you may want to consider furniture that allows you to hide some thing in or underneath it. Think of a couch that has a few precious inches of space underneath, that can fit smaller items and keep them out of your way and your guests' sight as well. Or a footstool that opens up to reveal a treasure chest of odds and ends. These types of furniture were designed a long time ago for similar situations - don't be afraid to try them out.
Another thing to do is use furniture that is both beautiful and useful. Think of a dining room hutch, perhaps like your mother had, that holds silverware and tablecloths when not being used. Or a set of drawers in the hallway that fits the decor of the home, and provides extra storage. This is the furniture that will allow you to live in a studio with all your things too.
The day of buying large storage boxes, throwing them in the attic, and forgetting about them is over. If you're living in the city you probably need to be a little more creative with your storage, and these are just a couple ways to do that.
